Peppers "hotness" is based on the amount of trauma the plant has. Since ours froze in a frost and almost died from lack of water they had lots of trauma. I bit into the red one and was disappointed that it wasn't hot...was I ever wrong! Another bite told me that these were the hottest peppers I had eaten in a long time. I finished the red one after giving Rich and Megan a bite and ate a green one...just as hot only not sweet too. That was five hours ago and now I THE worst heartburn ever. :o)
